Measurement with 3D camera: Clever and precise
Size and physique determine the slaughter weight:
By the time slaughter occurs, animals have largely dissipated short-term effects through feed intake or sobering up. Mechanical scales do not take into account whether the individual animal is coming from feeding or is sober when selecting in the barn. A measurement by size and body condition is the more precise indicator for slaughter weight. The optiSCAN uses a 3D camera to measure the conformation and size of the animals. From several million individual measurements of more than 6,000 animals, an algorithm has been developed to infer weight from size and conformation. This makes the values for the slaughter weight more meaningful than those of a mechanical scale, where short-term effects due to feed gain and sobering up distort the picture.
